It's 2009 now.

Seelan: This article on The Online Citizen reminded me of the thoughts I had one year ago at this time. I was fasting outside the Malaysian High Commission in Singapore for the HINDRAF 5, and so much has happened since then.

The spirit of sacrifice of the Malaysian activists has left a mark in the minds and hearts of thousands, changing the way everyone looked at Malaysia and paving the way for change in Malaysia. When will change come to Singapore?

It's 2009 now, let us gather strength from the past and move into the future. For the Singapore that Lim Chin Siong, Said Zahari and J B Jeyaretnam sacrificed so much for. It is now on our shoulders.

Hi Seelan,

Happy 2009! Hope this year has only good things in store for you.

Yes, I recall reading about your fast this time last year and feeling buoyed that finally in Singapore, we can break out of the deathly silence around issues of race relations that affect Indians.

Another thing of note: I believe that JB Jeyaratnam's passing was not without his personal knowledge that there now exists others in Singapore who can carry through his life work. I sincerely believe that he is happy in that knowledge.
